Access: Hwy 74, east of Anza. Watch for sign and turn south on dirt road.High clearance vehicle recommended. 4 wheel drive required in winter.
Facilities: 6 sites. The old cabin burned a few years ago, only the chimney still stands.
Season: Open year round, but often inaccessable in winter due to snow.
Fees: No fees. Adventure Pass required.
Nearby Hiking Trails: The peak is laced with small trails. My favorite is to head south across the saddle to the 8000 ft ridge, where the mountainside drops rapidly revealing an outstanding view overlooking the Anza Borrego desert, San Diego Mountains and all the way down into Mexico.
Nearby 4x4 Trails: Santa Rosa Truck Trail runs from paved hwy 74 up through chapparel and into fairly thick forest, ending at Toro Peak.
Comments: Its ALWAYS windy on the peak, but the views make it worthwhile.
