The San Bernadino Mountains contain the highest peaks in southern
California. They are also the most 'developed' mountain range with many lakes and resorts. The San Bernadinos are a 'transverse range', running east and west instead of the more common north-south alignment. Most of the mountain area is administered by the San Bernadino National Forest.
