In an effort to get more people outside more often, We founded The Camping Club as a part of this website in 2004. It grew rapidly and in 2008 we spun it off to its own website at www.socalcampingclub.org
The club usually hosts one camping trip each month, and an occasional daytrip. In addition, there is a monthly membership meeting at a centrally located park where they plan our future activities. Joining is free; they charge no membership dues. The Meetings are usually held on the second Saturday of each month and the camping trip is usually on the third Saturday of each month. These may vary depending upon various holidays or weather conditions.
Most camping trips are within 2-4 hours of the LA basin; from San Diego in the south to Death Valley in the north, and east to the Colorado River. As a general rule, they tend to go to mountains in the summer and deserts in the winter. Daytrips are closer, cruising the backroads and visiting nearby picnic sites and nature centers. A few of the trips require 4-wheel drive, but the majority of their campouts are open to anyone with a stock truck or SUV.
Regardless of where they go, they always pick a spot where there is something cool to see or do. This is an active group and don’t just sit around the campground! There might be a dayhike, fishing, exploring a ghost town or mining area, offroad driving, viewing odd geology or Indian petroglyphs… If these are the kind of trips you enjoy, please join us!
