Current conditions: (Updated 4/06/08) The trout action has been good over the past week with some limits being reported over the weekend. The best baits have been rainbow and green power bait, night crawlers, and small gold Kastmasters proving best. Charlie Haynes of San Diego landed a nice 6 lb. 4 oz. Rainbow Trout on a night crawler from the Buoy line. Pier #3 and the Buoy line areas have been seeing the most action. Most anglers are reporting average-size trout in the 1 to 2-pound range. The last stock was planted April 1, with 1200 pounds of rainbow trout. Dixon is planting another 1200 pounds of rainbow trout the week of April 7 to 11. The week after that will be a skip week for stocking. No catfish were reported this week. Try using cut mackerel in the deeper parts of the lake or near the Buoy line. March madness is over . . . though April is showing signs of the bigger females showing up. Mario Garcia of San Marcos on "ALL FOOLS DAY" fishing in Trout Cove landed the biggest bass of the week. She weighed in at 8 pounds taking a white jig . . . and that is no joke. The bass action is still happening this past week with a large number of bass anglers fishing the north shoreline and the shallow areas around the lake. Local bass anglers are reporting average size bass in the 1 to 3-pound range, hitting on any type of plastics or swim baits. The conditions are prime for the big bucketmouths to make a showing.
