Comments:

Current conditions: (Updated 4/02/08) 1,200 pounds of Rainbow Trout stocked on Tuesday, April 1 In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and private equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment now includes boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water. Wohlford's water has cleared and Trout action has been decent with some nice Rainbow Trout being taken. Top Trout baits have been night crawlers, power bait (green & yellow), and power worms. Carl Wilson of Temecula caught a 5#5 Trout that hit a Green Power Worm in Boat Dock Cove. Best Trout areas have been in Boat Dock Cove, Senior Shoreline, and in Willow Cove. Light line and small hooks are a must for Trouting success. Four-pound test line or less and size #14 or smaller treble hooks are recommended. Bass conditions are ideal for the pre-spawn and the bucketmouths are moving into shallower waters. Fourteen-year-old Tommy Megrditchian of Escondido landed a 10#8 Bass that hit an Anchovy in Willow Cove. George Takach of Valley Center caught and released a 5#4 Bass that struck a Plastic Worm off the South Shore Rockpile. William Shields of Oceanside caught a 4#10 bass while soaking Yellow Power Bait off Senior Shoreline. Senko worms, Swim bait lures, crawdads, live golden shiners, and plastic worms are working best for the Bass now. Crappie have started to bite with the water warming and rising. Billy Xaasomroth of Murrietta caught a 1#12 Crappie on a Shiner in Oakvale Cove. Mike Kostial of Oceanside caught a 1#5 Crappie on a Crappie Jig off Bass Point. Mike Kostial of Oceanside also caught and released a 12#8 Channel Catfish using Crank Bait off the South Shore Rockpile.
