Name: Ludlow
Location: 50 miles east of Barstow off Hwy 40.
Access: Paved roads, 2wd vehicles OK.
Comments: Named for William Ludlow, an employee of the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad, in 1883. In the late 1800s, gold was dicovered nearby and the town grew. Ludlow became a water stop for the Central Pacific, the Ludlow & Southern, and the Tonopah & Tidewater railroads. A handful of folks still live here, the gas station and cafe are still open, but most of the buildings are fallen piles of lumber and lots of rusty old junk litter the area.
