Comments:   About mid way between Sheep Pass and the Jumbo Rocks campground on the main park road is the Geology Tour Road. Head south through the usual Joshua trees and rockpiles, and you'll soon find yourself driving down a gravelly wash. If you picked up the free tour guidesheet from the visitor center, you will be able to examine some interesting geologic displays on your way down this road. The Geology Tour road ends at Squaw Tank, about 5.6 miles from the start. Get out, look around for Indian artifacts here. There are mortar grindstones and petroglyphs in the area. South of Squaw tank, Geology Tour road loops clockwise and heads back north. Take the loop about 1.5 miles to the dry lake bed. Stop! Get out, examine the surface of the lake. If it is wet, you had best head back, but if it is dry continue another .85 miles along the loop. Here, the road forks. The right fork continues the loop and heads back north to the main park highway. Instead, take the left fork onto Berdoo Canyon Road. This road heads south 3.45 miles, then turns abruptly southwest for another 1.67 miles. Now the road twists into the mouth of Berdoo Canyon and begins a long descent, turning and twisting down the wash. The next 6.25 miles can be difficult, with considerable sand and possible wash-outs. Then the road gets better, and after another 3.7 miles, intersects Dillon Road which takes you south to Interstate 10.
