Gold Crown Road to Dale Mining District

Trailhead Access: Take I-10 east to the 62 north, through Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and into Twentynine Palms. Turn south onto Gold Crown Road at the starting coordinates listed below.
Total Distance: 6.2 miles
Elevation Gain/loss: Low point: 1270 feet, High point: 1957 feet
Starts at: 34°07'19"N, 115°47'42"W
Ends at: 34°03'35"N, 115°43'48"W
Comments: As you head off the pavement, you begin a long, straight, sandy climb up a bajada toward a gap between Humbug Mountain and the Pinto mountain range. After 4.4 miles, you arrive at the Virginia Dale mine on your left. The road then curves east, another 1.8 miles takes you to an intersection. North takes you to the Supply Mine. South will take you up to many more mines, then down all the way across the Pinto Basin into Joshua Tree National Park... but save that for another day because this is as far as I am guiding you today. SoCalCamping.com rates this trail as moderate because of the deep sand.
